If you are eligible to participate in the Blue Shield Broker bonus program and concierge-level support, you received an invitation via email on October 26, 2022. The invitation is for the 2023 broker bonus program, which includes both a new sales bonus for open enrollment and a retention bonus and for concierge-level broker support.

Final notes
Remember to use the broker renewal tool to make it easy to assist your clients in changing or renewing off-exchange plans. Also, keep in mind that broker bonuses are a one-time payment, separate from your monthly commission payments.

New law from the California Insurance Commissioner

As a reminder, starting January 1, 2023, a new law will require most types of insurance producers, as well as independent insurance adjusters, public insurance adjusters, and analysts, to include their license number on emails. (California Insurance Code section 1725.5, as amended by Senate Bill 1242 [Committee on Insurance, Chapter 424, Statutes of 2022]).

This Notice answers some of the most common questions about the new law.

DispatchHealth provides convenient at-home medical support to members

Earlier this month, we announced that members living in Southern California now have access to additional medical care services for a range of illnesses and injuries in the comfort and convenience of their homes through a collaboration with DispatchHealthour.

DispatchHealth offers in-home, same-day, high-touch care delivered by a team of trained medical professionals who can treat more than 40 health conditions, including respiratory infections, pneumonia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Care is available in English and Spanish daily from 8 am to 10 pm. Bridge care — assistance transitioning high-risk members from hospital care to home care — is also available to help members recover and prevent hospital readmissions.

For now, the program is available to Blue Shield of California PPO and HMO members living in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Diego counties, with more planned in 2023.

Did you know? Resources for IFP brokers – Broker Verification

New broker verification process

When calling Producer Services, our agents will ask for the last four digits of your Broker Tax ID number instead of the assigned Broker ID to identify you and locate your account.

This change is being implemented to better align you with your clients as the Broker of Record. If the tax ID number is unavailable, we can take other steps to find your account, but it may take slightly longer to process. Please try to have this information available when calling Producer Service for assistance.

The Producer Services team can be reached at (800) 559-5905 Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 6:30 pm.

  • Displaced members may see an appropriate out-of-network provider at in-network benefit levels and may replace medical equipment and supplies, if needed. Misplaced identification cards can be printed at blueshieldca.com, and members can access their I.D. cards digitally on our app.
